R10PC01 - "Student Motivation-Applying Instructional Models to Academic Advising"

Dr. John Keller, Florida State University, synthesized existing research on psychological motivation and created what is known as the ARCS instructional model. ARCS stands for Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction.
This presentation will discuss, in a fun and informative way, how the ARCS model may be used to motivate students in advising situations. From the viewpoint that advising is teaching, specific suggestions and ideas will be presented along with the opportunity for further discussion about how to best apply each portion of the ARCS model.


R10PC02 - "Making Your Mark-Entering the Advising Profession"

This session is intended for new advising professionals as they prepare for entering the academic advising community and profession. In this session, the ins and outs of the job search will be covered with extra tips to help you shine throughout your journey. Particular attention will be provided to resumes, cover letters, networking, and interviews. However, getting the position is only half of the fun! Join us as we discuss ways to excel during the first years in your new position with a focus on self-care, professional development, and making your mark!


R10PC03 - Writing for NACADA: The NACADA Journal, Academic Advising Today, the Clearinghouse, NACADA monographs, books and blogs

There are many opportunities to write for NACADA. Articles authored from the ranks of advising practitioners, faculty advisors, researchers, and theorists appear in NACADA publication venues. While NACADA publishes webcasts, dvd-cds, and pocket guides, the primary focus in this session will be to describe the purpose, content, writing guidelines, and acceptance process for the NACADA Journal, Academic Advising Today, the Clearinghouse, monographs/books, and the NACADA blog. Whatever your interests in professional writing, this session will help you understand the various writing opportunities within NACADA.

R10PC04 - "NACADA Orientation for First Time Attendees"

HOW to Register for pre-conferences if you are already registered for the conference!

Log in to MyNACADA

  1. Choose General Shopping which takes you to the on-line store
  2. Under Shop For: choose "Session" and hit GO
  3. Scroll down to 2012 Region 10 Conference sessions (there are several pages of these)
  4. Choose which "sessions" (pre-conferences) you want to attend, add them to your shopping cart and check out.
  5. This will not stop you from choosing overlapping sessions, so be sure you know which ones you want to choose before you get into it.

By phone: If you are already registered for the conference: Call our office with a credit card number and tell whoever answers to please add you to specific pre-conferences. - call 785-532-5717

By fax: fill out the paper form and fax it to 785-532-7732 and put "adding precons " with credit card information.
