New Jersey - Mid-Atlantic Region 2

Summer 2011

Summer 2010

  •  The NACADA regional conference in Atlantic City was a smashing success by all standards.  We had a wonderful turnout despite many schools experiencing significant budget cuts.  The after-conference survey results further convinced us that attendees thought the event was a success.
  • NJ was also very well represented on the list of presenters.  To those of you from NJ schools who presented at the regional I want to thank you all for your efforts to make the event the huge success it was.
  • You may want to start setting aside some travel money for the state and/or the regional conferences in 2011.  Charlottesville, VA will be the location for the regional in April of 2011.  If it’s anything like this year’s event, plan on an enriching and enjoyable time that you won’t want to miss.
  • We’re in the very early process of planning the NJ State conference for 2011.  As you may know, we chose not to have a state conference this year purely because the regional was here in Atlantic City.  This one-day “drive-in” conference is a perfect opportunity to present, to share and to interact with others in our profession.
  • If your school has interest in hosting such an event, please contact me directly at tsiben@tesc.edu and we can discuss the possibilities.
  • The NACADA website is a great place to look for advising resources.  The web page is www.nacada.ksu.edu.

  • The 2009 (17th annual) New Jersey Drive-In Conference was hosted in June by Rutgers University, New Brunswick campus, and chaired by Julie Traxler. The conference theme was “Advising Locally, Thinking Globally” to reflect that advising today requires a focus on the individual needs of students that is informed by and responsive to the broad global changes that affect our students, our institutions, and our profession. The event was attended by 206 advisers from 36 institutions in New Jersey and the surrounding states (including New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland). The invited keynote speaker was Betsy McCalla-Wriggins, Director Emeritus of the Career and Academic Planning Center at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.
