2012 Excellence in Advising Awards


NACADA Region 3 Award Information

Each award and scholarship have specific criteria and application processes. The awards and scholarships available for 2012 are:

We are pleased to offer these scholarships to our Region 3 Members.  Detailed information on the Region 3 Conference is available at www.nacada.ksu.eduThe criteria and applications for these awards and grants are below as is the link to the on-line submission portal.

Instructions for On-Line Submission:

  1. Enter a password - this can be simple and you can use the same one for other submissions
  2. Select your Region.
  3. Then select the award for which you are applying from the "Awards/Scholarship Category" drop down box.
  4. Be sure to write down your Award/Scholarship Nomination Number and your password, so if you have to stop and come back to the nomination form, you can do so easily! It will also be in your confirmation e-mail.
  5. Enter the information as it is requested. NOTE: The NOTIFICATION section is for you to list those people who you would want to know if you are selected for this award/scholarship. We would suggest your president/provost, your supervisors, your public relations department.
  6. You will need to upload some documents. They must be in pdf form. As these are different for each award, please see the Region Awards page for more information before you begin the submission process. you can leave and come back as long as you have not hit the SUBMIT button.

Region 3 Excellence in Advising Awards

Region 3 Excellence in Advising - Primary Role
Eligibility:

  1. Any individual serving as an academic advisor who is employed by a regionally accredited post-secondary institution may be nominated. NACADA membership is not required.
  2. Current members of the Board of Directors and Council are not eligible for consideration for advising awards. After the member's term of office is over, s/he may then be eligible for consideration.
  3. Previous Outstanding Advising Award winners are not eligible. Previous Certificates of Merit recipients are eligible only if a minimum of 5 years has elapsed since the certificate was awarded and the nomination contains substantial new information.
  4. Previous Outstanding New Advisor Award winners or Certificate of Merit recipients may be considered for Outstanding Advising Awards or Certificates of Merit if a minimum if five years have passed since receiving the original award.


Criteria:
The Selection Committee will evaluate nominations on the evidence of qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor. Such evidence may include:

  • Caring, helpful attitude toward advisees, staff, and other faculty members
  • Meeting advisees in informal settings
  • Participation in and support of intrusive advising to build strong relationships with advisees
  • Monitoring of student progress toward academic and career goals
  • Mastery of institutional regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to engage in, promote, and support developmental advising
  • Evidence of administering an academic advising program that supports NACADA's Core Values
  • Evidence that the advising program, mentioned above, reflects the standards of good practice in the CAS Standards and Guidelines for Academic Advising
  • Participation in and support of advisor development programs
  • Perception of nominee's advising skills
  • Institutional recognition of nominee for outstanding advising.

Submission Procedures:
Nominations must contain adequate factual or narrative material that describes the extent to which an individual meets the awards criteria. Use objective data to support the nomination, and include the following items:

  1. Submit your nomination via the On-line Submission System 
    1. A summary of the nominee's qualifications, in which the nominator should summarize the extent to which the nominee meets the award criteria, citing letters of support, data, or other materials illustrative of exemplary performance as an academic advisor.
    2. Nominee’s resume or vita, including a current job position description or list of job responsibilities.
    3. A personal statement on advising by the nominee
