Region V Strategies for Achieving NACADA's Mission

Strategic Goals

  1. To recruit and retain a new generation of academic advisors.
  2. To encourage and promote diversity with the organization.
  3. To address the academic needs of higher education and advance the body of knowledge of academic advising.

Strategies to Achieve Strategic Goals

Strategic Goal # 1

Cultivate new NACADA membership with establishment of grants for up to $500 each for state or institutional allied organization start up purposes and for academic advising training and professional development purposes.

Promote Ontario organizing efforts to both bring together academic advisors from across Ontario into a cohesive province wide unit and to build a database of who's who in academic advising throughout Ontario.

All Region 5 NACADA state and institutional allied organizations will continue to hold annual meetings, workshops, seminars, or conferences where membership in the allied organization and NACADA are promoted.

Strategic Goal # 2

Illinois State University will host for the state of Illinois a 2007 one day workshop for academic advisors and career development professionals to emphasize the link between academic advisement and career development and to demonstrate how that link can be seamless.

KASADA will continue to offer an in service multicultural advising skills training workshop.

WACADA plans activities for 2006/2007 such as linking with other professional organizations (i.e. WCPA), developing a membership directory with identification of institutional type, providing a conference scholarship for a board member, linking to the UW-Madison Speakers Bureau, including a WACADA student membership, adding a graduate student to the WACADA Board and expanding the WACADA web site to better meet the needs of WACADA.

MIACADA plans to continue its membership drive for 2006/2007 to enhance diversity for both individual and institutional memberships for MIACADA and NACADA.

Strategic Goal # 3

Based on Region 5 budget availability solicit grant proposals and award grants up to $500 each that will help promote the needs of higher education and advance the body of knowledge of academic advising.

Region 5 is comprised of members from academic institutions in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Ontario and Wisconsin.

News from state organizations will be posted, so please browse through Region 5 web site to see what's happening. There you will find links to the state organizations, professional development conferences, resources and grants.
