Crossing Borders – Sharing Knowledge

Presentation Proposals may be submitted

until January 15, 2010.

Two nations come together on the banks of the mighty Niagara River. Considered one of the Natural Wonders of the World, Niagara Falls is the world’s second largest water fall. Each second roughly 750,000 gallons of water plunge 170 feet into a swirling, foaming torrent, churning its way down stream to Lake Ontario. This represents almost twenty percent of the world’s fresh water supply.

Niagara Falls is the perfect backdrop for the NACADA Region 5 Conference with its emphasis on collaboration. Niagara means a place of coming together, and on April 14th -16th, 2010 Academic Advisors, Faculty Advisors, Advising Administrators and others who are interested in student success are invited to come together to share knowledge, experiences – to collaborate! As the Falls provide a natural resource that refreshes the soul, so collaboration refreshes the professional mind.

Conference rates are available for the weekend following the conference if you would like to extend your stay in Canada for a short vacation after the conference. US residents coming to this conference must have the appropriate travel documents in place before crossing the border. Take the time to order your passport now!

Possible Topics:

  • Collaborating with colleagues in your department or centre to enhance academic advising programs and student success.
  • Collaborating with colleagues in other departments or centres to enhance academic advising programs and student success.

Format options for conference sessions include paper or topic presentations, panel discussions, and roundtable discussions. Paper or topic presentations and panel sessions discuss current issues in advising. Some are based on research, some share best practices, and some are developmental, while others are theoretical. The format may be mostly lecture with a discussion following, a panel session followed by questions, or a more informal discussion. Roundtable sessions are less-structured discussions on relevant advising topics that generate audience/presenter interaction. All sessions will be approximately 1 hour long.
