2010 PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS

"Back by popular demand, Josh Nichols (Dickinson State University) will be leading a pre-conference workshop on "Advising Upgrade:  Installing Technology into Everyday Advising".  This workshop will answer questions on how advisors can match the Net Generation's (Net Gen) momentum through the use of technology.  The challenges include not only advisors' unfamiliarity with technological options that are second -nature to NET GEN students, but also Neomillenial students' preference for the speed and convenience of technology over the traditional methods of advising.  This is not to suggest the elimination of face-to-face advising; the mission is to translate traditional advising methods to a language more easily understood by NET GEN students through the technology that is so much a part of their lives.  You will leave this workshop with a  plan to integrate technology with your current advising methods, methods to maximize your time, and a better understanding of how to speak the language of the Net Generation."

3:30-4:30 p.m.  P2. Pre-Conference Workshop - Using Technology to Develop a Campus Advisor Training System (University of Nebraska-Lincoln Advisers)

This session will review the process the University of Nebraska--Lincoln (UNL) used to develop and implement an on-line, all-university adviser training tool. The presentation will also include a review of UNL's advising structure and programs the institution has developed to enhance the sense of advising community on campus.
