us for the 2010 Region 8 Conference!

The ART of Advising:
Advise-Retain-Teach Through the Use of Technology
January
25-27, 2010
Seattle,
Washington
NOTE: If you have not received an e-mail confirmation of your registration from the NACADA office, please call on Thursday, Jan 21 or early Friday, Jan 22 so we can check to make sure you are on our participants list. Call 785-532-5717 and ask for Diane or Judy. If you are planning to "walk on", please call and we can get your nametag ready. We are very excited to have a Region 8 record number attending (around 315!), and we need to make sure we have materials for all!
Dear Region 8 Conference Attendees:
Brett McFarlane, Region 8 chair and the conference planning committee is busily preparing for your arrival in Seattle! The Region 8 Conference is scheduled for Monday, January 25 - Wednesday, January 27. We are pleased to have Dr. Jayne Drake, President of NACADA joining us for our conference. Please make note of the following items:
- NOTE: The W5: NACADA ORIENTATION FOR NEW Attendees has been changed to TUESDAY morning at 8:00 a.m. Those of you who indicated attendance for this session on Monday, please adjust your schedule accordingly.
- Plan your schedule! See schedule of presentations here!
- Registration will be in the Hyatt at Olive 8 Hotel outside of the ballroom, and will begin Monday, but will be open all three days.
- There is an opening dessert reception (lots of chocolate!) with a no host bar on Monday night from 7:30-9:00 p.m.
- Tuesday our keynote, Jayson Jarmon will be presenting during lunch and his topic is "Everything that can be digital, will be digital".
- Wednesday at the closing lunch we will announce award winners and the Best in Region presentation for 2010
Region 8 has a history of service projects, a way to give back to the local community, during our conference. This year, the Washington Academic Advising Council (WAAC) has joined with Region 8 to support Treehouse an organization that helps foster kids. WAAC will be collecting school supplies and cash donations for Treehouse during our conference. Please help support foster youth by donating.
On a little houskeeping note, the conference fees will cover lunch for attendees on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Unfortunately due to the high cost of food we are not able to provide breakfast either day. The hotel has a restaurant and a coffee bar, and being Seattle, there are plenty of coffee shops within a short walk of the hotel.
For those of our attendees that may be from out of state, we recommend you bring a good rain slicker or umbrella as most likely it will be raining in the Emerald City!
Finally for those of you that are attending your first NACADA conference in Region 8, we welcome you and look forward to getting to know you.
In case you have questions about transportation or other items, see the links in the left hand column on this page!
See you in Seattle!
Sincerely,
Karen Sullivan-Vance, Ed.M.
