2012 Excellence in Advising Awards


NACADA Region 9 Awards & Scholarship Information

Each award and scholarship have specific criteria and application processes. The awards and scholarships available for 2012 are:

  • Region 9 Graduate Student Scholarship: This category is for graduate students who are currently involved with NACADA and plan to attend the 2012 Region 9 Conference in Las Vegas, NV, March 7-9.

We are pleased to offer these scholarships to our Region 9 Members.  Detailed information on the Region 9 Conference is available at www.nacada.ksu.edu.  The criteria and applications for these awards and grants are below as is the link to the on-line submission portal.

Instructions for On-Line Submission:

  1. Enter a password - this can be simple and you can use the same one for other submissions
  2. Select your Region.
  3. Then select the award for which you are applying from the "Awards/Scholarship Category" drop down box.
  4. Be sure to write down your Award/Scholarship Nomination Number and your password, so if you have to stop and come back to the nomination form, you can do so easily! It will also be in your confirmation e-mail.
  5. Enter the information as it is requested. NOTE: The NOTIFICATION section is for you to list those people who you would want to know if you are selected for this award/scholarship. We would suggest your president/provost, your supervisors, your public relations department.
  6. You will need to upload some documents. They must be in pdf form. As these are different for each award, please see the Region Awards page for more information before you begin the submission process. you can leave and come back as long as you have not hit the SUBMIT button.

Region 9 Excellence in Advising Awards

Region 9 Excellence in Advising Award - Primary Role
Eligibility:
Individuals whose primary role at the institution is the direct delivery of advising services to students.

Criteria:
The Award Selection Committee will evaluate nominations on the evidence of qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor or faculty advisor. Such evidence may include

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Appropriate referral activity
  • Use and dissemination of appropriate information sources
  • Advisee or unit evaluations (summary data)
  • Caring, helpful attitude toward advisees, faculty, and staffMeeting advisees in informal settings
  • Monitoring of student progress toward academic and career goals
  • Mastery of institutional regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Participation in and support of advisor development programs
  • Perception by colleagues of nominee's advising skills or advising administration skills.
  • Institutional recognition of nominee for outstanding advising and/or administration
  • Participation in and contribution to academic advising research and scholarship

Region 9 Excellence in Advising - Community College Advising
Eligibility:
This category is for individuals who currently work at a community college in an advising position and plan to attend the 2012 Region 9 Conference in Las Vegas, NV, March 7-9.

Criteria:
The Award Selection Committee will evaluate nominations on the evidence of qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor or faculty advisor. Such evidence may include

  • Strong interpersonal skills
