Region 9 Announcements!

Service Project during the Region 9 Conference!  (March 2-4, 2011 - San Diego, CA)

As part of the conference, we will be participating in a service element to assist the local community.  In continuation of the great response from last year's event, we will hold a SCHOOL SUPPLIES DONATION DRIVE for Rancho Elementary School in the greater San Diego area.  During the month of February, please place collection boxes in each advising center throughout the region to collect supplies.  The school has indicated the following items as a high need (although they are not opposed to any donation):

copy paper
colored copy paper
12x18 sized construction paper
large glue sticks 
baby wipes (used for our special day classes)
Crayola Colored Pencils or Crayons

Scholarship Program for Region 9 Members! 

Second, the region will be funding a new scholarship program to award 6 scholarships to Region 9 members (3 for the Regional Conference, 3 for the National Conference).  The categories of the recipients will be: 1 graduate assistant, 1 primary advising professional from a 4 year college or university, and 1 community college advisor.  The individual scholarship amounts will equal the cost of the registration fees for the designated conference of the award recipient.  Details on applying for these scholarships are posted at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Regional_Divisions/region9/Region9Awardscriteria.htm .

Application Deadlines:
NACADA Region 9 Conference: Applications Due January 31, 2011
NACADA Annual Conference: Applications Due April 29, 2011

Applications must be completed in full and submitted to gayle.juneau@unlv.edu by the respective deadlines.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  

National NACADA Awards Program Due Dates! 

Third, NACADA award nominations for most award categories is March 7, 2011.  Please see specific award categories for deadlines.  I encourage you to recognize your fellow colleagues for their contribution to advising.  For more information,and nomination forms, please visit http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/programs/Awards/AwardsCall.htm .

 

Apply for NACADA's Emerging Leaders Program!  

Lastly, I would like to encourage you to apply for NACADA's Emerging Leaders Program.  Each year, 10 advisors and 10 mentors are selected to participate in a two year program where each partnership collaborates in goal setting, developing a plan for continued involvement in NACADA, and growth in the organization.  Each Emerging Leader will receive $1,500 to assist with travel to state, regional, and national conferences.  The deadline to apply is April 1, 2011.  Applications and more information can be found at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Programs/EmergingLeaders/Index.htm .
