Regional Division Role


REGIONAL DIVISION - represents the membership within the geographic regions through the facilitation of networking opportunities and member recruitment and service. Regions are led by Region Chairs and propose activities to support academic advising and advisors within their geographic regions. Regions represent an entry level for involvement in the association and a direct and welcoming opportunity for professional development. Regions conduct annual conferences and offer additional state/province or area drive-in professional development opportunities.

  • Conducts Regional Conference
  • Conducts State/Province/Area Drive-in Conferences
  • Identifies needed membership services for the region
  • Coordinates with Commissions for networking within regions
  • Encourages general networking within the region
  • Focuses the membership recruitment and retention efforts within the region
  • Contributes to NACADA Publications.


Chairs meet immediately prior to the National Conference each year.

Leadership:

  • The regions utilize region level governing bodies
  • Regions will develop a system for involvement with states/provinces.
  • Regions will elect their officers and/or Chair. The Region Chairs serve staggered two-year terms. State/province liaisons may be appointed until the regions believe they should be elected by their members.
  • The Regional Division Representative is elected by the incoming and continuing Regional Chairs from among all past Region Chairs and serves a two year term as the Elected Division Representative to the Council.
  • A second Regional Division Representative is appointed by the President and serves an alternate 2 year term from the Elected Rep
  • Service as a Region Chair makes one eligible for service on the Board of Directors at the end of that term.

Operational Guidelines

I. DUTIES: The Regional Division represents the membership within the geographic regions through the facilitation of networking opportunities and member recruitment, retention, and service. The Regions propose activities to support academic advising and advisors within their geographic regions. Regions represent an entry level for involvement in the association and a direct and welcoming opportunity for professional development. Regions conduct annual conferences and offer additional state/province or area drive-in professional development opportunities, as well as, contribute to NACADA publications. The Regions may establish a system for involvement with states/provinces.
The Elected Division Representative provides leadership for the Division, convenes meetings, appoints person to take minutes, advises Chairs on activities, presents Division items to the Council, oversees the financial affairs of the Division by preparing Division Budget Request including recommendations on Chairs’ request, and appoints and orients new Chairs of new sub-units.
The Appointed Division Representative provides continuity of support as Elected
Reps transition, handles sub-unit organization and recognition processes, gathers semi-annual reports from sub-units and distributes them to Executive Office and Division Reps, prepares timely written Division reports to the Council and Board of Directors and reviews and updates Division Handbook/policies and procedures.

II. MEMBERS: Members of the governing body of the Regional Division are the Division Representatives, Region Chairs, and the Regional Steering Committees.

III. OFFICERS: There are two Division Representatives, one elected to head the Division and one appointed by the President with Board approval to assist with the operations of the Division and to provide continuity as the two serve staggered terms. Both Representatives serve on the NACADA Council. The Elected Rep is elected by the incoming and continuing Region Chairs. The Appointed Rep is appointed by the President with approval of the Board.

Region Chairs are elected by the Region Members and establish and maintain a regional governing structure. Region Chairs may appoint state/province liaisons until the Division believes they should be elected.

IV. ELIGIBILITY: Division Representative candidates must have completed a full term as a Region Chair any time in the past. Service as a Region Chair makes one eligible to be a Division Representative and/or a Board of Directors member.

V. TERM: Division Representatives serve two-year staggered terms. Region Chairs serve two-year staggered terms.

VI. REPORTING: The Region Chairs provide *an annual report (June 30) to the Division Representatives. These reports are condensed and included in the Division Representatives’ report to the Board in August.

VII. MEETINGS: The Division Reps and Region Chairs will meet immediately preceding the Annual National Conference each year and electronically as needed.
