Tomarra
Adams serves the University of Louisville as Assistant Dean
of Advising and Student Services, as well as Assistant Professor
for Pan-African & Women & Gender Studies
She holds a doctorate in Social Work from the joint program
at University of Kentucky/University of Louisville. She has
worked on issues of diversity and retention in higher education,
with a specific focus on issues impacting Black students as
well as identity development and interpersonal relationships.
Other facets
of the University that she has or is currently serving as
advisor includes the U of L National Pan-Hellenic Council
(1998-2001), the Society of Porter Scholars, the C.O.N.E.C.T.
Program, the Future Scholars Program, and the E.S.S.E.N.C.E.
Program. She also serves as the faculty adviser for the Department
of Pan-African Studies majors and minors and the Louisville
Association for Black Social Workers. Her research interests
concentrate on issues related to student retention, especially
for minority students at predominantly White institutions,
as well as identity development, interpersonal relationships,
and mental health issues of Black women in the United States.
Tomarra has
served NACADA as a faculty member for the 2006 and 2007 Academic
Advising Assessment Institutes and as a member of the Assessment
Institute Advisory Board.
