Advising 2.0: Utilizing Technology Effectively for Campus-wide Advising


Tentative Schedule

Thursday February 12 - Friday February 13, 2009

The Glossary of Technology Terms can define for you any terms you my be unfamiliar with listed in the schedule. Feel free to visit the glossary when needed.

General Sessions are topical and are presented in a lecture discussion format. Participants will have the opportunity to attend multiple general session topics of interest

Concurrent Sessions focus on the hands on use of one tool or topic but will address the following issues:

  • Relationship of tool/technology to its use for its category
  • Examples of capabilities
  • Advantages and disadvantages of using a tool
  • Examples of vendors or related vendors
  • Uses of the tool for administration, impact and effectiveness, and communicating with students

Each faculty member will address one tool per concurrent session. Participants will work individually or collaboratively to experiment with the tool (establish login, explore) and use the concurrent session action grid to begin brainstorming uses for the tool in academic advising.

Learning Communities: Faculty and team leaders assisting groups. The learning community groups are facilitated by seminar faculty who are experienced with using technology in academic advising and leaders in the field. the faculty and team leaders will assist in the development of the participant project plans. The project plan will focus on a key issue or concern on your campus which may be improved or changed by the use of technology.
