Multicultural Concerns Commission News and Updates

NOTE: This message was sent to commission members on September 26, 2006.

Dear Multicultural Concerns Commission Members,

The 2006 NACADA Annual Conference in Indianapolis is only a few weeks away. I hope you are planning to attend the conference and to enjoy learning from the many excellent sessions as well as from your peers from across the nation.

As you might already know, I was recently elected as the incoming Chair of this Commission. Since the outgoing Chair, Tina McNamara, will not be able to attend the conference this year, she has passed all commission responsibilities on to me, including this communication with you. This note is to inform you of what you can expect at the conference.

  1. The Commission and Interest Group Fair will be on Thursday, October 19, 7:30- 8:30 a.m., in the Convention Center Sagamore Ballroom. If you have books or articles to display at the Multicultural Concerns Commission booth or if you would like to share commission-related information of programs/activities of your institution, please bring these materials with you.
  2. The annual Multicultural Concerns Commission meeting is scheduled for the same day, October 19, at 3:15 p.m. in Westin State Room.  We will not have a Hot Topics session this year due to a quick change of hands from Tina to me, but the Commission meeting will provide opportunities for everyone to share his or her achievements or concerns.
  3. There are many excellent sessions related to multicultural advising to choose from. If you are one of the presenters, I thank you.

If you are not planning to attend the conference this year, I hope you are planning to attend the one next year in Baltimore, and are considering submitting a presentation proposal.

Whether you are attending the conference or not, I want you to know that your involvement in this Commission is very important and highly valued. Only with your help and commitment, we can reach our goal. My priority is to keep conversation flowing among members, either through the Web site, newsletters, or electronic mail.  Please also keep me on your list and share with me your achievement or concerns related to the multicultural issues.

Best Regards,
