Advising Administration Commission Resources
Developing
an Academic Advising Handbook for your campus
Establishing
an advising handbook for your campus can be a daunting task. One
of the first resources an administrator should turn to is the book,
Academic Advising:
A Comprehensive Handbook, produced by NACADA and
published by Jossey-Bass. This book is a collaborative effort of
many revered individuals in the academic advising profession and
a comprehensive but broad-based book of advice, research, and practical
suggestions about on-campus advising. For details on this publication
and order information, visit the NACADA web site at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Publications/jbbook.htm.
Also
featured on the NACADA web site are 25+ links to electronic advising
guides and handbooks at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Publications/advisor.htm.
Although you may not want to publish an electronic document, these
would serve as great resources for content and organization. You
may also want to check out the award-winning electronic publications
for the past few years, listed at http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Awards/EPub_Winners.htm.
We
invite other administrators to send their tips for developing a
handbook for posting on this resource site to Linda
Chalmers, incoming Advising Administration Commission
Chair, (mailto:lchalmers@utsa.edu).
