NOTE:
This message was e-mailed to commission members on January 3, 2005.
Happy
New Year, Commission Members! I hope you found
some time to rest and to renew over the holiday break. I spent
much of the break running around after my 6-year old grandson!
(It really was fun.) Please take few minutes to review this email
and then note in your planners the important dates and when you
will follow up!
The
Administrators’ Tips - submit
NOW to Linda Chalmers!
The tips posted at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Commissions/C05/C05-Resources-Tips.htm
have been updated, and I will continue to do so when members contribute.
There is also a new subject for the month of January, “Promoting
a climate of cooperation and motivation for your staff, especially
with the onslaught of the new semester’s registration/first
week of classes”. I invite you to contribute
your ideas, tips, and techniques for this subject by emailing
them to me directly.
There are some upcoming
NACADA events and deadlines relevant to Advising Administration
Commission members. I encourage you to contribute to all that
you are able, remembering that
Administrators’
Institute – REGISTER
NOW for January 30!
This working institute
really helps advising administrators focus on pressing issues
and come to some viable plans for action upon return to their
campuses. (…St. Pete’s beach –not a bad place
to “focus” on either!) I hope to meet you there
and get more ideas for connecting us in meeting our goal of networking
opportunities. Visit www.nacada.ksu.edu/AdminInst/index.htm
for details.
National
Conference Proposals – Due
February 8, 2005
I’m sure that within each of you lies a "best practice"
story just waiting to be shared. Our commission will select four
proposals to sponsor at the conference in Las Vegas! I bet that
yours could be one of them. Visit www.nacada.ksu.edu/NationalConf/2005/index.htm
for more details and proposal submission guidelines, including
a tutorial for writing an effective title, proposal and abstract.
Regional
Conferences and Proposals – (Click here
for your region's proposal deadline.)
Calls for proposals
are already out for many of the regional conferences. I’m
requesting that any of you who attend your regional conferences
make a “plug” for our commission at the business meetings.
As we increase awareness of our commission, we grow stronger in
contributions and connections. For more information on the regional
conferences and proposal submission deadlines, visit www.nacada.ksu.edu/Events/Conferences/Regional/upcoming.htm.
NACADA
Awards Program – Due
March 7, 2005
There are many awards for which to nominate colleagues so check
out the awards web site at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Awards/AwardsCall.htm
and be gathering your nomination materials!
Service
to Commission Award – Due
March 7, 2005
www.nacada.ksu.edu/Awards/CService.htm
In particular, I encourage
you to submit a nomination for our Advising Administration Commission
Service to Commission Award, which was last awarded in 2003. There
are many of you who have made contributions to the commission
as well as to NACADA as a whole. I’ve provided the link
above to the guidelines. Many of our commission members influence
and
advise NACADA’s membership as well as the commission membership.
Let’s submit some nominations!! Our selection committee
is being chaired by Shannon Williams, a longtime member of the
commission and the steering committee.
I’ll be in touch
again as we look forward to more ways to connect. Have
a great beginning of the semester!
