Commission Goals and Activities for 2004-2005:

Each goal and/or activity has been related to the applicable mission and strategy within the NACADA Strategic Plan.

Goals and Objectives for 2003-2004:

    1. Since there are several professional development opportunities now for Administrators, there are plans to integrate the curricula for Regional Pre-conference Workshops, Pre-conference Workshops at the National Conference, topics during the Summer Institute, and the Advising Administrators Institute and Administrators Seminar.
      • This goal links to the following NACADA mission- Provide comprehensive professional development opportunities to the academic advising community. Identify, develop, and deliver professional development activities and resources to meet the needs of the academic advising community - including institutions, central administrators, full-time advisors, faculty advisors, and peer advisors.
    2. We plan to continue to utilize the time provided during the Commission/Interest Group Fair and Roundtables (in whatever form they take) for recruiting new administrators to the Commission. There is considerable support for the Roundtables although there is some variation of opinions about the optimal model. We intend to emphasize networking , particularly connecting veteran with novice administrators. There is strong support for opportunities during regional and national conferences for administrators to have time for "casual" discussion.
      • This goal links to the following NACADA mission- Assess member needs and talents. Identify representatives of diverse groups and plan for ensuring their successful involvement in association activities.

Future Activities Planned:

    1. Following the specific goals for increasing effectiveness for networking, the practice of providing stickers to designate Administrators at the Commission/Interest Group Fair received popular support. It will be continued.
    2. The Steering Committee will encourage and select conference presentations to be designated for Commission Sponsorship.
    3. The Steering Committee will solicit nominations and select a Service to Commission Award winner.
    4. The Commission will continue to support actively the variety of Administrator-specific professional development functions by NACADA.
