Members
of this commission share ideas and best practices for advising
student-athletes at the NCAA Division I/II/III level, community
colleges, Canadian institutions, and NAIA schools. Commission
members include advisors who work solely with student-athletes
as well as those who see student-athletes as a part of a larger
advising audience.
Current
topics of discussion often include NCAA rules (which may change
on an annual basis), academic eligibility, career counseling,
technological advancements, ethical issues in sport and/or athletic
academic advising, transfer concerns, and life skills development
of student-athletes. As advisors to a unique population with a
significant time commitment outside the classroom, commission
members often serve as a liaison with faculty and other advising
offices on their home campus. Both beginning and seasoned advisors
interested in working with student-athletes are welcome and encouraged
to join the Advising Student Athletes Commission.
