Faculty Advising Commission News and Updates

NOTE: This message was sent to commission members on January 10, 2005.

TO: Faculty Advisors Commission Members
FROM: Kathy Stockwell, Chair

Date: January 10, 2005

Greetings! I hope you all had a relaxing holiday break and are now getting back in the swing of things. With the start of the new semester, it’s also time to start thinking about a few important NACADA-related events that are coming up:

  1. FEBRUARY 8 is the deadline for submitting presentation proposals for next fall’s national conference in exciting Las Vegas. If you have never presented before, now is the time to consider sharing your expertise with fellow advisors from across the country. Last year we had 22 sessions identified as faculty-related. Let’s increase that number this year! If you are not sure about how to write a proposal, there is a great tutorial available on the NACADA web site that will help guide you through the process.
  2. Regional conferences will be occurring soon. These conferences present a great opportunity to network with and learn from colleagues from schools in your part of the country. Visit the NACADA web site for specifics on your regional conference at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Events/Conferences/Regional/upcoming.htm.
  3. It’s also time to start thinking about awards as the awards nomination deadline is MARCH 7. Is there someone you think deserving of recognition by NACADA? Now’s the time to nominate that special person. Check the web site for specifics, including nomination criteria and guidelines, at www.nacada.ksu.edu/Awards/index.htm.
  4. And last but not least, I am in need of 4 or 5 commission members to assist in reading presentation proposals for the national conference. It’s fun to read about the work others are doing and have a hand in conference planning. If you would be willing to help with this task, please let me know by JANUARY 17 (stockwel@fvtc.edu or 920-735-2428).

That’s it for now. I hope to see some of you at the Region 5 conference in Toronto. Here’s to a great semester for all of you!

Kathy
