I
am currently the Assistant Dean for Student Services for the School
of Business (since April 2001) and found that advising business
students presents different challenges than working with different
student populations. As the Commission Chair, I would want to
focus my efforts on developing resources and materials that members
of the Commission could use to enhance current practices. For
example, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business
(AACSB) has developed new standards, with a section devoted to
Student Services. I would like to provide a mechanism —
either through the list serve, chat rooms, or through internet
resources — to discuss issues and present ideas. However,
the information provided by accredited institutions should not
only be focused on accredited institutions — this information
can also be applied to non-AACSB acredited programs as well! The
more information we can share among the members of the commission,
the more effective we can perform our duties. Thank you for your
