Platform Statement:

Although I have been an active NACADA member since 1998, I have been more involved in leadership at the campus level. I helped establish IlliAAC, our campus advising organization, was instrumental in its becoming a NACADA affiliate, and have served as an officer since 2002. This group has used two Region 5 development grants in establishing itself as the respected voice of advising on our campus. During difficult budget times, we have strived to insure that advisors have the institutional support they need to do their jobs, including sufficient training to effectively use Banner and Darwin. While drawing on the experience of seasoned advisors, I have encouraged newer advisors to take on responsibility, including helping to plan and host the 2004 regional conference in Chicago.

I would welcome this opportunity to serve Region 5 as its chair. I would bring the same enthusiasm and collaborative leadership skills to this position that I have employed locally. Building on the careful planning and dedication of my predecessors, I would encourage:

  • more campus advising organizations to become NACADA affiliates;
  • additional mentoring opportunities for new advisors;
  • increased communication via the Region V list serve, especially about innovative ways to counter the effects of leaner budgets on advising;
  • more collaboration between advisors from different campuses on research/conference presentation proposals.
