Statement:
The use of technology
in advising is becoming a mandatory way of doing business. Finding
appropriate ways to utilize technology is the challenge for all
of us. Having taken my college's program from a paper-based environment
with minimal use of computers to a program using cutting edge
technology, I feel I have an insight into the advantages and limitations
of such challenges.
I would like to see
the commission work to assist both those institutions who are
forging ahead into undeveloped areas as well as working with those
schools who are just entering the technology arena. Those programs
that have made good use of technology should be recognized and
cited for their accomplishments and used as a resource for others.
This could include a "list of experts" on the commission website.
Previous award winning programs would provide the base allowing
pieces of other programs to be added.
I also would like to
see the commission work to provide either pre or post-conference
workshops to assist those trying to implement the more basic components
of technology. This would allow the commission to reach out to
more of the NACADA membership and help those programs working
with limited budgets and or resources.
