Statement:
- Highlight your involvement
in this unit that will help you in leading this unit. What roles
have you played in this unit thus far?
Prior
to becoming Chair of the Adult Learners Commission, I initiated
the Commission newsletter to communicate with members in between
regional and national meetings. As Commission Chair, I initiated
the Commission website, packed with information for advisors serving
adult learners. While serving on the Commissions and Interest
Group Division Steering Committee, I advised 6 commission and
interest group chairs, assisting them as needed so that they could
accomplish their goals while serving as chairs.
I have also served for several years now with the various committees,
task forces, and advisory boards that focus on improving the national
conference each year. We added Hot Topic Discussions and spaced
out the announcements of awards to better serve the membership
during the conference.
- What do you believe are
the most important goals and initiatives for this unit in meeting
the strategic plan for both the unit and the Association?
I
am particularly interested in expanding growth opportunities for
NACADA Members. I feel that I can help identify and promote
opportunities for involvement by new members and develop our members
to become leaders in the organization. I would like to work
on means to identify methods for reaching new populations with
advising professional development opportunities.
- Why
are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what
influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I have committed my professional membership to NACADA and I have
accepted responsibility for leadership at the two levels available
to members before the Board. I would like to continue to develop
my leadership in the organization at the highest level.
- Provide
any additional comments or information
regarding your past experiences and qualifications that relate
to your candidacy for this leadership position.
I
believe that I have good ideas to bring to the Board. I have
twelve years of experience and a deep knowledge of the Commissions
and Interest Groups and how they can meet the needs of NACADA
members. An organization as large as NACADA cannot meet the needs
of individual members without smaller groups that target individual
interests. The Commissions and Interest Groups serve as a primary
way for members to meet each other and to explore a particular
area in which they have interest. I can represent these interests
well on the Board and make sure that they have the resources and
support that they need to meet the needs of the members.
