Platform Statement:

  • Highlight your previous involvement within this unit that will help you in leading this unit. What roles have you played within this particular unit as a member thus far?

I am the current Chair of the Advising Student Athletes Commission. I would like to opportunity to continue what has been started during the National Conference in Indy. The initiative between the NCAA and NACADA will have a great impact upon professional advisors, faculty advisors and athletic academic advisors in how we advise this population of students in addition to the resources that will be made available, which will enhance and strengthen the academic advising process. I would also like the opportunity to continue conversations with the two groups and assist with the development and implementation of the Online Course and Institute. I believe that this partnership can and will be successful because both groups have resources that can be combined to address academic reform issues, programming and methods of delivery with respect to the educational initiatives.

  • What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and the Association?

There are several immediate goals:

  1. Identifying a network of resources & contact persons within each Region or Conference.
  2. Develop and implement a Web site.
  3. Encourage Presenters at Statewide, Regional and National Conferences.
  4. Assist with the development of the NCAA & NACADA initiative programs.
  • Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?

I have a long standing membership with NACADA and have enjoyed the many people that I have met down through the years. This organization has strengthened me as a professional and also provided support when developing new programs that enhance the lives and academic success of the students that I work with. I am also interested in continuing what was started over 10 years ago with this commission and see the development of resources for members.

  • Provide any additional comments or information (either personal or leadership-related) that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered elsewhere in your platform information.

I have always presented myself as a hard working, dedicated and honest person. I have never been about a title to work on a committee or serve in any capacity. I believe that we all contribute to this profession and that we learn a lot from just listening to others. I will continue that same style if elected to this office. I will strive to keep the membership updated and informed, always find out what the needs and concerns are, and work to find resources that would address them. I earnestly ask for the opportunity to continue the work that has begun and serve as Chair of this commission. Your support and vote would be greatly appreciated.
