Platform Statement:
Highlight your previous involvement within this unit that
will help you in leading this unit. What roles have
you played within this particular unit as a member thus far?
|
Involvement in the Research Committee has mainly been to do various
presentations on research at regional and national conferences for
the past few years. Participated as moderator for the panel presentation
on "Expanding Research in Academic Advising".
What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives
for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and
the Association?
The
fundamental goal of the Research Committee should be fostering scholarly
inquiry in academic advising. Key goals will be to continue the
awards program and the presentation of preconference workshops on
research. Further, the focus group project begun by Josh Smith should
be continued. Lastly, I would like to work on a book project to
promote research and scholarship among NACADA members.
Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or
what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I
am a firm believer that scholarly inquiry is the key to the future
of academic advising as a field. I believe that we are more than
just a field of practitioners. We are academics; and research is
among the many things that academics do.
Provide any additional comments or information (either
personal or leadership-related)
that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered
elsewhere in your platform information.
I
hope to continue to expand the vision of what can constitute research
and the creation of knowledge within the field of advising, as the
preceding chairs have done.
