Position Description
The Advising Center at the University of Nevada, Reno, is seeking a creative and innovative leader for the position of Academic Advisor and Coordinator of Pre-Professional Advising. Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Advising, the Coordinator is responsible for providing information and assistance to undergraduates who are seeking admission into professional schools (i.e., medical, dental, physical therapy, pharmacy, law, etc.) by advising individual students, holding workshops, maintaining an informative website, and teaching a course for pre-med, pre-health and pre-law students. The Coordinator will have the opportunity to develop and set the standard for pre-professional advising at the university through collaboration with various academic units across the campus. This individual performs another role in the implementation of a comprehensive academic advising system which includes providing advising and other transition functions for students who have not decided upon a major as well as students pursuing a Bachelor’s of General Studies (BGS) degree.

Advising students pursuing professional degrees in medicine, law, dental, pharmacy, and other professional fields.Coordinating campus-wide events to introduce students to professional schools and pre-professional activities.Collaboration with pre-professional student organizations

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and two years, or a Master’s Degree and one year, of university/college-level academic advisement and/or administrative experience in program development, assessment and evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication; experience in academic advisement; experience and success working with pre-professional students; experience working with professional school admissions requirements; experience in program development and assessment; and interpersonal and human relations skills.
