Position Description
PURPOSE:Under supervision of the Manager of Extended Education Academic Credit Programs and direction of the Chair of the Nursing Program, the Academic Advisor performs professional student services work. The incumbent provides services that support and enhance the student learning experience in Extended Education programs offered in collaboration with the Nursing Program. 

Duties
1.Serves as the primary advisor to applicants and students for the Nursing Programs. Participates in the Nursing Admissions Committee. Meets with prospective candidates and newly admitted students to review individual learning plans. Reviews academic coursework and advises students regarding their academic progress towards meeting all degree requirements. Provides evaluations of courses and credits completed to the Academic Chair for approval. Maintains student advising files, transcripts and records; ensures strict confidentiality and security of academic records. Produces and analyzes reports. Provides students with the information on creating an educational plan, reviews academic transcripts and evaluations and recommends appropriate coursework pursuant to the students’ academic goal and monitors student academic progress. Works with the nursing faculty on reviewing student rosters and students’ eligibility to take courses.
2.Promotes, attends and presents at special events for Extended Education program prospects and students including student orientation, on-campus recruitment programs, showcases, information sessions and Open Houses. Assists with student recruitment and outreach. Increases public awareness of Extended Education academic credit programs and activities.
3.Refers students to campus resources and services. Coordinates registration and advises students on course registration by term. Carries out day-to-day assignments that affect CSUMB enrollment goals. Communicates campus policies and procedures.
4.Works with enrollment services departments (e.g., Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid) in coordination with the Academic Credit Programs Manager to enhance the administration and coordination of services for students enrolled in Extended Education programs. Identifies issues, recommends, and implements solutions to problems and changes in program procedures. Ensures services and systems are working effectively to support student success and meet program goals.
5.Monitors the Extended Education academic program information website and university catalog. Increases public awareness of Extended Education programs and activities. Other Functions: Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned by the Chair of the Nursing program or Manager of Extended Education Academic Credit Programs.

Required Qualifications
SSP IA:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
SSP IB:
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job related field Experience: One (1) year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job-related education may be substituted for the required experience. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. A master’s degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
SSP II:
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
Experience:
Equivalent of two (2) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. 

Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of recruitment, admission, enrollment, retention, graduation, and other student and administrative services that support and enhance student learning. Excellent customer service, information literacy, and critical thinking skills. Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional, persuasive, and tactful manner. A sincere desire to assist students. Technical competence in a wide variety of applications including Oracle/ PeopleSoft or other enterprise information management system; MS Office, Google mail and calendaring programs. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to CSUMB’s Vision.
