Position Description

Morrisville State College seeks candidates for a full-time, 12-month, professional staff at the Norwich Campus to provide academic advising to students. This position is a key member of the Norwich Campus staff reporting to the Norwich Campus Executive Director. This position serves as a liaison to the Morrisville Campus academic deans department chairpersons to maintain consistency in academic processes and procedures.


•Advise students about academic requirements and selection of courses to students in accounting, business administration, computer information technology, individual studies, liberal arts: humanities and social sciences

•Disseminate information on college policies and procedures

•Advise students in criminal justice, early childhood, human services and Morrisville Campus-based degree programs on an as needed basis (during winter and summer breaks)

•Advise at-risk and conditional semester students as part of the at-risk admission and conditional semester program

•Coordinate end of the semester academic review

•Work with the Executive Director in developing staff and faculty professional development in student retention, advising and student success strategies.

•Work with the Registrar’s Office to ensure certification graduates and additional processes

•Maintain accurate student records

•Work with students to complete add/drop forms and answer other questions that they may have about courses

•Advise students when they have questions about major changes or departure

•Assisting Academic Deans, Chairpersons, Coordinators and Faculty on academic processes and procedures such as building the academic schedule, academic review and others as assigned.

•Academic advisement for non-matriculated students taking classes at off-site business locations interested in enrolling into a MSC major.

•Serve on various college-wide committees, the Norwich Campus Advisory Council and other college-wide groups.

•Serve on various Community Boards/Councils in the Norwich area.

•Share responsibilities with staff/faculty on schedule development, orientation (Accepted Student Days), recognition of academic excellence and special events.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree preferred and bachelor degree required;

3 or more years of progressive experience in college advising;

Ability to work with diverse populations;

Demonstrated interpersonal, administrative, organizational, speaking, writing, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills;

Proven ability to set work priorities and to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced, hands-on environment while meeting deadlines;

Ability to make professional presentations, serve on panels, and promote the College in various settings;

Record of fostering and creating change and innovative solutions;

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills;

Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Banner and Degreeworks preferred
