Position Description

The Academic Advisor in the College of Liberal Arts is responsible for providing advisement for new, transfer, and continuing students on general academic requirements. A strong emphasis will be on assisting students in the humanities and fine arts and also promoting the value of a liberal arts degree to prospective and current students. The advisor serves as a resource for all new and current students to assure that they are making timely progress toward degree completion. In addition, the academic advisor takes the lead on certain activities and assists the Director of Advising, Recruitment, and Retention with other recruitment and retention activities, with special attention to building and serving effectively a diverse student body. The advisor will assist with on-campus and off-campus recruitment events. The advisor will be involved in program design and implementation relating to advising, recruitment, and retention.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and two years or Master’s degree and one year of related professional academic advising experience or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualification

-Master’s Degree

-Advising and recruitment experience within any of the following disciplines: social sciences, humanities and fine arts.
