Serve as academic advisor for students in the Department of Biological Sciences. Assist the faculty advisors in management of the advising center. Performs other duties as assigned.
60% - Essential - Student Advising:
- Advise and counsel undergraduate students concerning degree progress, scheduling conflicts, course selection, and academic standing. Work with students to develop a program leading to a timely graduation while directing them toward their chosen career goals. Prepare and coordinate course substitutions, permission to take courses elsewhere, change of major forms, academic forgiveness forms, and analysis of degree progress for graduation.
20% - Essential - Student Recruitment and Orientation:
- Assist in the recruitment and advising of potential and accepted students, providing them with information regarding degrees, course, and other departmental information. Assist in spring & summer orientation sessions.
15% - Essential - Data Management:
- Maintain accurate records for assigned students in Biological Sciences including records of major, curriculum, minor, and any academic changes for each student. Work with faculty and staff in the department to recommend and insert edits to the Undergraduate Handbook. Generate advising folders for new students in the department.
5% - Essential
- Perform other advising-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or Department Chair.
