A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in the Advising, Retention and Career Center beginning February 12, 2018. The working title for this assignment is Academic Advisor with an official title in the Associate Student Services Coordinator title series. This is a renewable assignment, contingent on performance and funding. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Academic and Career AdvisingProvide consultation for declared and exploratory students on such matters as course selection, High Impact Practices, degree requirements and academic achievementInterpret, communicate, and keep up-to-date on all university and degree policies, such as liberal education requirements, major and minor requirements, and graduation requirements
- Remain current with, and facilitate, course waivers and substitutions, late course adds/drops/withdrawals, and credit overloads, and other university procedures
- Partner with departmental faculty advisors to provide connected advising for students
- Provide individual and group major/minor/certificate advising for students
- Utilize early warning alert mechanisms and predictive analytics to properly advise students; follow up with advisees who are at risk, based on mid-term and semester grades; provide assistance to students encountering academic difficulty
- Advise incoming students during orientation sessionsProvide individual and group career development advising for students
- Administer and interpret career assessments for advisees
- Design and implement student programs that foster student development
- Develop and deliver modules, seminars or courses on college success strategies and major and career exploration
- Assist advisees in creating individualized four-year academic degree plans/contracts
- Communicate regularly with advisees and track progress toward their degree with the goal of increased retention and timely degree completion
- Address advisees’ personal and academic needs by referring them to appropriate services
- Maintain records of each advisee contact
- Participate in campaigns to promote student engagement, progression, and retention
- And other duties as assigned by the Director of Advising.

The Advising, Retention and Career Center consists of 40+ staff members dedicated to effective campus-wide academic and career advising practices and initiatives. The center consists of Academic Advising, The Office of Career Services, The Center for Service-Learning, and Orientation Programs. Our staff partner with faculty advisors from the four colleges to provide our students with a holistic advising approach.

- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.
- Demonstrated experience working with college students and knowledge of best practices to promote student academic and career development.
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, with the ability to plan, organize, and meet goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a cohesive member of a team.
- A master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling or other relevant field;
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and prior experience with, predictive analytics and proactive student intervention.
- A strong ability in developing cooperative relationships with faculty and staff. Knowledge of career assessments;
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
