Position Description

Hagerstown Community College is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for a Academic Advising and Registration position.

Duties

The Academic Advisor/Nursing and Health Science Specialist is responsible for providing direct advising services to students enrolled at HCC, advising them in their course selection, making educational plans, assisting them in the potential career and transfer possibilities, and basic counseling and case management services while in the community college setting.

Hagerstown Community College (HCC) was founded in 1946 as Maryland’s first community college. The College serves more than 6,000 credit students and 7,000 non-credit students each year and awards associate degrees, certificates and letters of recognition. HCC is located in scenic western Maryland on a 319-acre campus. The College has experienced strong growth over the last decade and has continued to invest in upgrading facilities. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Education, or related field required.

  • Knowledge and experience working with a student database system, such as Datatel/WebNow, preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to guide students in their academic decision-making; excellent organizational and planning skills in working with the career and transfer student population; advising and communication skills to interact effectively with students (specifically nursing and health science students), faculty, staff, administrators (i.e. Directors of Nursing and Health Science), coaches, and community leaders; proficient computer skills, especially in the use of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Internet, and email.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with counseling or social work degrees and who have experience working with students in a higher education setting.
