Position Description

This position provides high-quality, relevant, and meaningful academic advising and student support for Bachelor of Applied Science Program (BAS) students. This position is responsible for helping students transition from technical associate programs to an interdisciplinary bachelor's degree program, for offering individual, goal-oriented academic advice, for understanding and clearly communicating university policies and procedures, and for ensuring students start, continue, and finish their degrees.

Duties

  • Academic Advising Provide academic advising for BAS students. Communicate regularly and proactively with BAS students. Help BAS students develop an academic plan based on their personal and professional goals, skills, values, and strengths. Make appropriate referrals to university resources and services. Advocate for and offer guidance to BAS students experiencing academic difficulties.
  • University-wide Advising Activities Collaborate with Academic Advising and Support Center (AASC), New Student Programs (NSP), eCampus, and other student support programs to create and promote meaningful academic opportunities for adult and nontraditional students.
  • Other Duties Serve as a representative on relevant campus-wide or community committees, councils, and boards. Participate in activities and events that support the mission of the university, college, and program

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or the equivalent plus 2 years experience
  • Knowledge of adult-focused educational programs
  • Knowledge of academic advising theory and best practices
  • Knowledge of military education policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education or other related fields, and two years of advising experience in a higher education setting.
