Position Description

This position assists students in developing and accomplishing education plans to pursue majors in allied health fields within the College of Allied Health and Nursing.


The academic advisor assists with orientation of all new and transfer students pursuing majors in the College; presents information for student recruitment and program promotion at various events; and meets with prospective students interested in College programs. The position is also responsible for arranging and leading group advising sessions, working with the student advisory group, management of college-wide scholarships applications and awards, and other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned Master's degree in Counseling and Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related field
  • One year of full time professional advising experience with students in higher education setting (student advising, admissions, retention, career services, or closely related higher education)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of student development and advising theory through academic background or experience.
  • Demonstrated superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of academic preparation for various allied health professions.
  • Computer skills and ability to learn student record system as well as various programs and technologies to provide online advising and media to support advising.
  • Ability to provide classroom instruction relevant to academic advising.
  • Demonstrated networking and referral skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
