Position Description

The University of Southern Indiana invites applications for the position of Academic Advisor for the Advising Center in the College of Nursing and Health Professions. This is a full-time administrative position with responsibility for serving as academic advisor to and monitoring the academic progress of students majoring in disciplines in the College of Nursing and Health Professions. Position to begin July 15, 2019. For priority consideration, please submit applicant materials by June 10, 2019.

Duties

The advisor will counsel students regarding their program curriculum and course selection and have ongoing communication with advisees regarding their progress in meeting academic and graduation goals. The advisor may also serve as an initial point of contact for prospective students. The advisor will work closely with faculty in the College. Additionally, the advisor will participate in student development programs, individual and group orientations and advising activities, College information sessions, student recruitment activities, and advisor and faculty development programs.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of experience working with students in higher education. Candidates with experience in student advising and a Master’s degree are preferred. Must be able to analyze and interpret data and make independent decisions with minimal direction. Experience with student data software programs is required; must possess excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational skills. The Advising Center seeks a collaborative individual with a dedicated student focus, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and a deep knowledge of factors that increase student success.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with experience in student advising and a Master’s degree are preferred.
