Position Description

General Summary/Purpose: This position is integral to the academic experience of undergraduates in the School of Arts and Sciences through advice & counsel, from freshman to senior years. Academic advisors, working with faculty advisors, help students achieve academic success.

Duties

Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Advisement and Retention

  • Assist undergraduates with course registration, academic strategies, selecting majors and minors, and developing post-graduation plans
  • Troubleshoot problems with registration and refer students to support services to facilitate success
  • Provide advice to students regarding adapting to university life
  • Advise undergraduates on academic opportunities and requirements, policies and procedures
  • Evaluate transfer credits
  • Monitor students’ academic progress to advise them of their academic standing
  • Communicate to students the process and deadlines for graduation processing
  • Confirm degree compliance
  • Administer academic support services
  • Compile and analyze academic data; prepare and write reports
  • Make suggestions for improving student advising processes based on data and student feedback
  • Other duties as assigned
