Position Description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and professional individual to serve as Undergraduate Advisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing academic advising to students enrolled in and exploring the Mechanical Engineering major; interpreting university policies, procedures and curriculum to students and faculty; guiding students in course selection, scheduling and long-range planning; assisting in resolving academic problems; monitoring academic progress; making professional referrals; and maintaining confidentiality of student records. The academic advisor will represent the department in university & department sponsored recruitment and retention initiatives, lead the ME portion of New Student Orientation and serve as a liaison among students, faculty, staff, campus, and university constituents.


The academic advisor is responsible for the academic advising program development; providing leadership to project and committee work; serve as a mentor to other staff; assist with advising training and development; responsible for evaluating advising services and proposing best practices for advising improvement; assist in data management and preparation of reports, surveys and other documentation; maintain academic information on department advising resources web sites and assist with student outreach initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
