Position Description

The Agricultural & Applied Economics Department in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences seeks to fill a full-time, calendar year Academic and Student Support Advisor position. This administrative/professional faculty position will provide accurate, timely advising services and undergraduate program coordination, to the department related to degree requirements and academic course options, recruitment and retention, admissions process, placement and registration, department and college orientation and retention activities, active participation in the First Year Experience, and professional representation and communication of the department and its programs to the internal/external university community, public sector, industry and alumni. Work proactively and collaboratively with the college academic affairs department to provide synergy and consistent, professional advising to all students of the college.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (i.e., Counseling, Advising, Education, Student Affairs, Agriculture/ Life Sciences, or Economics discipline) from an accredited college or university.
  • Prior experience working with students in an education setting related to advising, preferably higher education.
  • Excellent communication skills in a variety of formats (oral, written, phone), with students and prospective students, parents, faculty, alumni, university and community stakeholders.
  • Ability and expertise in dissemination of information in a clear and concise manner, maintaining detailed and accurate records and provide appropriate referrals to other departments and university resources.
  • Effective/efficient computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of student development theories and services, appreciative advising, counseling skills and recruitment/retention strategies
  • Member of NACADA or similar professional organization
  • Experience with Banner Student system
  • Demonstrated ongoing professional development within the field of advising
