Position Description

Provides direct service and guidance to prospective, current and former students through advisement on academic programs and services, admissions and registration, transcript evaluation, orientation, assessment of learning, and college policies and procedures. In addition, this position serves to facilitate student engagement in academic and career goal-setting and planning activities, student success skills, as well as student co- and extra-curricular activities offered at the College.


  • Manages a large caseload of new, continuing, and transfer community college students
  • Assist students in identifying, and planning to achieve their educational and career goals
  • Provides routine advising and guidance regarding the admissions, financial aid, and registration process, to also include special program application process and documents required. Responds to email/phone inquiries from students about academic planning, registration, graduation, transfer information and other procedures
  • Reviews, prepares and maintains accurate and comprehensive student tracking for academic progress, success, retention, and to ensure deadlines are met for completing various coursework requirements, graduation requirements and other specific program requirements
  • Follows up with students and faculty concerning academic early alerts and satisfactory academic progress. Works with students to enhance their college experience through identifying individualized strategies for success
  • Tracking and follow up with students regarding completion of FAFSA submission and required additional documents and provide overall instruction with financial aid policies and procedures to maintain eligibility
  • Reviews caseload to determine if there are barriers to success and progress. Acts as a liaison while working with students to overcome barriers in a timely manner
  • Teach students decision-making, problem solving, and life skills to help cultivate self-direction in order to persist toward goal achievement by coaching students with adjustment to college-life issues, navigating college systems (i.e. Degreeworks, YC Portal, Canvas, etc.) and facilitates access to campus or community resources
  • As a part of the Student Development Team, conducts and facilitates workshop topics, New Student Orientations, and recruitment events
  • Collaborates with all areas of Yavapai College to support a positive, engaged student experience contributing to improved retention and graduation rates for Yavapai College students
  • Schedules and monitors completion of advising, testing, disability resource and financial aid appointments and First Year Experience engagement
  • Communicates with faculty regarding student attendance, behavior and other important student related situations
  • Other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree AND at least 2 years' experience in student services area, closely working with students to identify goals
  • Experience working with a culturally diverse, college-aged population
  • Experience in helping students adjust to college life and/or referrals to campus or community resources as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex administrative analysis with only general supervision
  • Demonstrated diagnostic, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills used appropriately to influence the decision-making of individuals and groups at all levels in the College
  • Ability to present analysis of complex data to various levels of the organization
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with diverse employee and student populations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Presentation skills, including conducting new student orientations, workshops, and training programs
  • Experience working with community college students
  • Advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments i.e. Microsoft Office Products and Banner
  • Knowledge of Yavapai College degrees, certificates, and career pathways
  • Knowledge of Arizona transfer articulation
  • Experience delivering student services in an online format
  • Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment
