Position Description
The Academic Success Counselor will provide a broad range of services to promote student success and retention at Trident University International. The Academic Success Counselor works directly with students to develop academic success plans, provide academic/career advising, and counseling on areas such as balancing life and school, and goal setting to support their academic and personal success. The Academic Success Counselor actively collaborates with the academic deans, program directors and faculty leads to identify and use innovative and engaging instructional practices to encourage student success/retention. The Academic Success Counselor is also responsible for collaborating with other units (Student Services, Financial Aid, and Registrar’s Office) to create an environment of open communication and strong relationships within the University community.

Duties
•Provide regular, individualized coaching, counsel and support, and case management to students experiencing academic difficulties. This includes students who received failing grades in the previous term.
•Provide academic advising and develop learning contracts with students on academic warning.
•Mentor under-prepared students that have been conditionally admitted to Trident and provide referrals and follow-up to relevant student support services.
•Contact students who are not participating and/or have been referred by faculty through the Early Alert program.
•Assist students in setting academic and life goals.
•Regularly assigned to teach students in TUX 101/301 or other General Education discipline.
•Design and facilitate student success workshops in an online environment.
•Research and consult with faculty and other student services offices to identify available resources and address student needs.
•Work closely with the Academic Success Manager, Faculty, Associate Provost and Deans on retention-related projects.
•May be assigned to coordinate University processes and compliance relative to students with disabilities.
•Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
•Master’s degree in education, counseling, psychology or closely related field.
•3 – 5 years of experience in proactive academic advising that incorporates intervention strategies and/or career development tools. •Must possess an understanding and commitment to working with adult learners in an online environment.
•Skill to independently analyze and understand student issues to provide appropriate coaching, mentoring and opportunities for student success and retention.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Strong interpersonal skills with student populations.
•Ability to remain up to date with university policies and federal regulations.
•Must possess solid analytical and critical thinking skills.
•Strong active listening skills, dynamic telephone presence, and skill to follow up and follow through.
•Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
•Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and handle high call volume.
•Superior detail, organizational and problem resolution skills. 

Preferred Qualifications
•Experience working with military students.
•Experience working with under-prepared or at-risk students from diverse cultures and life experiences.
•Successful teaching experience in a higher education environment.
•Knowledge and understanding of compliance issues relative to students with disabilities.
