Position Description:The School of Art Advising Associate will provide comprehensive academic advising to 1700+ School of Art undergraduate students as well as students working on the Art Educational Credential, the Liberal Studies Art concentration and two certificate programs. The diversity of the School of Art programs, the quality of instruction, and the professional caliber of it's faculty all combine to provide an exceptional opportunity and challenge to students seeking meaningful educational experiences and careers in the visual arts. The Advising Associate plays an important role in helping our students realize their goals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong advising skills and the ability to independently determine approaches and techniques to provide comprehensive advisement to students. Ability to support and enhance the undergraduate academic experience and help students achieve their goals and excel at all levels. Ability to apply and use various statistical and research methods to organize and present data and information in a concise and logical manner. Ability to perform in-depth analysis of complex individual student or group problems. Ability to use judgment to interpret guidelines and precedents to create solutions. Ability to plan, develop, and conduct student services related instructional sessions, course, and seminars for students.Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
