Position Description

The Assistant Director/Senior Advisor will provide academic advising for business majors and minors. Assist in admission, records, graduation processing, train and supervise advisors. Meet with business pre-majors as needed and liaison with minority business organizations.

Duties

  • BBA student academic advising, including understanding of SMU degree and graduation requirements, degree planning for BBA students, maintenance of appropriate advising records, identifying BBA students in academic difficulty, and working with students on academic probation.
  • Staff liaison and advise minority student business organizations.
  • Consult with the director on enforcement of policies and procedures.
  • Assist in managing records and graduation processing including graduation ceremonies.
  • Train and supervise advisors.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • A minimum of three years academic advising experience in a four year traditional university setting is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Academic records experience is strongly preferred.
  • Candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills, be able to work independently and demonstrate interest in academic programs.
  • A strong customer service orientation is essential.
  • Candidate must possess strong organizational, planning and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong problem solving and listening skills with the ability to identify, analyze and devise solutions with an attention for details.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft.
