Position Description

The Assistant Director of Advising will provide appropriate and effective academic advising to an assigned caseload of students. Performs integrated academic advising and consultation of prospective, current, and former students in the College of Education and Human Development.

Duties

Assesses academic level and advises on academic programs and changes. Develops academic plans and class schedules. Assists students in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities and setting goals. Presents academic information to orientation groups, potential students and parents. Completes transfer evaluations to determine how credits fit in to the chosen program of study. Maintains appropriate records. Responsible for sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students and educational team members. The Assistant Director of Advising supports student life and learning through student advocacy, academic coaching, customer service, campus and community referrals, institutional outreach and course scheduling. The Assistant Director of Advising works closely with all campus departments to support retention and persistence endeavors.

Additional Information

This is a full-time position. Normal schedule is 40 hours per week. Weekend and evenings when needed. Travel when needed

*Advanced degree and demonstrated experience in education, counseling, advising or related field or equivalent training, education, or experience *Experience in planning and implementing programming for student recruitment and/or retention activities, or related events like commencement and workshops *Experience in making independent judgments, analyzing and solving problems, managing multiple tasks, working independently as a self-starter *Proficient with current office software such as Microsoft Office *Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds *Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
