Position Description***THIS POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED***The Orfalea College of Business (OCOB) at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is recognized for preeminence in business education in California and the west, offering undergraduate degrees in business administration, economics, and industrial technology. The graduate programs offer a Master of Business Administration and MSA Taxation and Financial Accounting.The incumbent will work in collaboration with the University Advancement team, reports to the Executive Director of Communications, Marketing and Communications in University Advancement, and works under the joint direction of the Assistant Dean, OCOB, and the Executive Director of Communications, Marketing and Communications. This position has three primary purposes: (1) Development and implementation of the college's strategic communications plan that successfully promotes its vision, programs, fundraising priorities and objectives to reach the college's constituents especially as it relates to the College's advancement activities, (2) manage the Orfalea College communications and information flow, including (a) the development and creation of content and (b) production of printed and electronic materials which cultivate the interest, involvement, and support of the College's current and prospective constituents through the College's website, print and electronic media, social networking, events and correspondence, and (c) coordination of its CRM activities with the campus; and (3) function as a Dean's Office team member and collaborates with colleagues throughout the university to advance the college's brand, value, and reputation. This position works with the internal college and university communities and in close collaboration with the office of University Advancement (UA), including Public Affairs. The Communications Specialist participates in the development and execution of strategic plans and policies and is also responsible for external relations, including facilitating interactions via communications technology with strategic partners such as donors, alumni, friends, parents, corporations, foundations, media and volunteers. The CS will work collaboratively with UA to ensure that university wide standards, branding and messaging are followed.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree and three years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and public relations, or a related field.LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, DEGREES, CREDENTIALS: Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.  

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications / SkillsMaster's Degree and experience in higher education preferred. Experience in the use of new media, and new social networking sites. Experience with video filming, editing, captioning, and storyboarding. Experience in web design and maintenance that meets ADA requirements. Knowledge of branding theories and concepts in order to develop and execute communications strategies and imaging plans. Donor relations experience. Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
