Position Description

Under the direction of the VC for SD the Coordinator of Academic Advising will provide academic advisement, guidance and life skills training primarily to first and second year degree seeking students. This person will train, supervise and evaluate other academic advisors. This position will assist the VC for SD in developing overall policies related to advisement and related student records, Provide orientation services to incoming transfers and first-year students. She/he will also work with university and departmental databases, attend university wide meetings related to enrollment and retention and develop reports on student success and retention. She/he will coordinate with campus community in monitoring and assessing the academic progress of first and second year students.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Student Services or related field and 3 years related experience, or bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience.

Supervisory experience and training staff on policies and procedures a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of assigned program area, such as advisement, registration, admissions financial aid, and housing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, staff, students, parents, coworkers, and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to work fluently with Microsoft Office applications, university mainframe, e-mail, and standard office equipment.
