Position Description
Diablo Valley College, San Ramon Campus, is seeking a full-time tenure track counselor with expertise in both general counseling and Disability Support Services to begin August 2015. The successful applicant will be well qualified to provide academic, career and personal counseling utilizing a variety of counseling strategies/methods and to teach related courses.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications 
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience
The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications for DSS Counseling (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):
1. Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or equivalent foreign degree, in rehabilitation counseling; OR
2. Master’s degree or equivalent foreign degree, in rehabilitation counseling in special education and 24 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology or social work; OR
3. Master’s degree in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology, career development, or social welfare, and either 12 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically in counseling or rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities, or two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following: counseling or guidance for students with disabilities; or counseling and/or guidance in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities; OR
4. A valid California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing full-time counseling to students with disabilities; OR

AND The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications for General Counseling (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):
1. Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; OR
2. A bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline; OR
3. A valid California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing full-time counseling; OR
4. The equivalent. If you do not possess the EXACT minimum qualifications (i.e., you do not possess the exact degree listed) and believe that you meet the minimum qualifications because of equivalent educational or professional background, please complete and upload the equivalency form in the attachment section of the application.

1. Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion as well as sensitivity to and understanding of the socioeconomic, academic, cultural, sexual/gender identity, linguistic, and ethnic diversity within the community college population, including students with physical and/or learning disabilities.
2. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development, innovation and improvement of counseling and teaching, and to assuming faculty responsibilities beyond the counseling department in a shared governance environment.
3. Demonstrated experience providing personal counseling, including crisis, referrals, etc.
4. Demonstrated proficiency in various technologies to provide counseling services and information.
5. Demonstrated experience assisting students in developing a plan to achieve an educational and/or career goal (e.g., career/technical education, transfer, etc.)
6. Demonstrated experience teaching career planning, college orientation, college success, or other courses and workshops.
7. Experience with program development and conducting outreach.
