Position Description

The Degree Completion Coach/Instructor teaches student success-oriented workshops or university courses, including First Year Seminar, as appropriate based on credentials. Typical teaching load is two courses per semester, or four courses per academic year. This position is responsible for conducting completion reviews for students nearing graduation.

Required Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree and one year of relatable experience. Excellent oral, written, time management, and organizational skills are necessary, as well as a high level of interpersonal and creative problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations. Computer literacy and willingness to learn new applications. Ability to master a wide body of factual knowledge (e.g., interpreting academic program evaluations, academic policies and procedures, etc.) with a high degree of accuracy and detail. Professional mindset with the ability to multitask, sound judgement, and the ability to work without immediate supervision. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and to work collaboratively across unit/departmental lines.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred. College/university-level teaching experience preferred. Experience or degree in academic advising, counseling, student/career development, higher education, or related area, or in a discipline related to the job. Working knowledge of higher education and/or MSU policies and procedures that impact student success. Proficiency with Excel. Experience in data management and/or analysis.
