The Director of Academic Advising and Achievement understands that the role of advising is to articulate, explain, and connect the purpose of the curriculum and co-curriculum to students in relationship to the institutional learning outcomes. Thus, the director will provide leadership through the coordination, implementation and oversight of advising that enables the University to meet its broad goals for student success and enables each student to maximize her/his potential for success. In doing so, the director of advising should understand the significance of the institution’s commitment to broad learning outcomes and the utility of these outcomes for guiding learning and career success. The director of advising will be responsible for coordinating the multiple dimensions of Dominican’s integrated advising model. This involves coordinating with specific divisions on campus to facilitate and oversee the connection of students with peer, alumni, and career services mentors, as well as with advisors in the advising center. The director of advising will have responsibility for communicating with advisors and mentor groups to ensure quality of advising that reinforces specific advising goals throughout each student’s journey at Dominican. The director will also be responsible for coordinating students’ integration of their educational and career plans into their electronic portfolios. The director should be comfortable taking a leadership role in organizing workshops and providing instruction on goals of advising across a diverse group of campus and external stakeholders; the Director should also have demonstrated success in managing direct reports and budgets, and overseeing support units such as the Tutoring and Learning Center and programs such as VisionQuest. The director is comfortable collaborating with a variety of stakeholders and participating in the shared governance structure. The director will work with the associate vice president of academic affairs and dean of the Dominican Experience to develop advising standards, protocols, and mechanisms for successful implementation.

•Master's degree in Education or related field, and five years’ experience in academic advising and advisor training.
•Demonstrated knowledge of the significance of institutional commitment to broad learning outcomes and the utility of these outcomes for guiding learning and career success.
•Demonstrated advising experience grounded in theory, best practices, and technological resources in advising.
•Demonstrated success in supervisory and/or management roles.
•Excellent interpersonal, verbal, writing, and presentation skills.
•Demonstrated working knowledge and implementation of disability law and policy.
•Demonstrated understanding of University policies and procedures.
