Trinity Washington University, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks an experienced academic advising leader to develop and supervise the university’s new Center for Academic Advising and Student Success. The purpose of the new Center is to improve student enrollment, persistence, and completion through a unified, systematic advising program across the university that includes the effective use of data analytics to inform advising. Trinity serves about 2,000 students in five academic units with both undergraduate and graduate degrees. One of the nation’s historic Catholic women’s colleges with coeducational graduate and professional studies programs, Trinity’s student body is more than 90% African American and Latina, and about 80% Pell eligible.
Trinity believes that strong academic advising is central to student success, particularly for the large population of first-generation students and low-income students who attend Trinity. Overseeing a team of professional advisors serving all of Trinity’s programs in five academic units, the director will have primary responsibility to ensure that the quality and effectiveness of the academic advising program fully embrace Trinity’s mission, values, and strategic goals.

Reporting to the Provost and working cooperatively with the academic deans and faculty, the director will create a comprehensive plan for systematic advising protocols and practices, continuing education in advising for professional advisors as well as faculty who advise in academic majors, and the appropriate use of data analytics to inform advising and improve student persistence and completion. Partnering with Admissions, Academic Services, Student Affairs and Enrollment Services, the director will facilitate seamless integration of the student experience from the point of admission through registration, enrollment, and completion. The director will ensure that advisors receive cross-training on academic programs, financial aid, learning support, student services and other core institutional support services.
Candidates must present at least eight years of progressively responsible experience in collegiate academic advising, preferably in an institution with a student body comparable to Trinity’s, and be able to demonstrate successful outcomes through measures such as academic progress, persistence, retention, and completion. Candidates must also have current experience with the use of data in advising, with a preference for candidates experienced in data analytics software. Excellence in verbal and written communication skills, dynamic interpersonal talents, evidence of genuine interest in students and how they progress through college are all essential qualities. Serious commitment to Trinity’s student population and mission essential. Master’s degree required, preferably in counseling, higher education or a related field. English and Spanish proficiency is desirable.
