Position Description
The Director of Student Success and Advising in Advisement Center is a highly motivated person with vision, enthusiasm, leadership qualities and collegiality who has significant responsibility for developing and implementing student success and advisement initiatives that promote engagement, retention and timely graduation of students. 

Reporting to the Associate Dean, the director will supervise and evaluate professional advisors and work closely with faculty advisors and college staff to promote and coordinate college and department advisement initiatives. The Director will plan and lead the training of professional and faculty advisors in efficient and effective advising strategies that maximize the use of the professional and faculty advisors' time and capabilities; actively promote the growth and development of professional advisors; oversee freshman and transfer orientation, and the development and implementation of effective outreach/recruitment activities; design and implement a robust assessment plan to track the effectiveness of the College' s Advisement Center in advising our students; work in accordance with University policies and procedures to ensure that the Advisement Center functions efficiently and effectively to serve our students; and will be responsible for assisting the professional advisors in advising undergraduate students, as needed.

Required Qualifications 
 A master' s degree from an accredited four year college or university and five years of relevant experience in areas of advisement and/or student success in an institution of higher education. Demonstrated organizational management skills and the ability to supervise and motivate staff to work effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and administrators; excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and team building skills; proficiency with Microsoft office and social media; ability to manage, analyze and present data and ability to use data to improve programs; demonstrated leadership in addressing diverse problems; and ability to manage multiple priorities and act decisively under stressful situations. Incumbent must also demonstrate an ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position. 

Preferred Qualifications
A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university. Three years of management or leadership experience; familiarity with a range of advisement tools and platforms; a record of development and implementation of program assessment strategies; knowledge of CSU policies and procedures and PeopleSoft applications.
