Position Description

Primary responsibility for this job is to provide holistic advising to entering students to develop a plan for academic success through coaching techniques. The academic coach will monitor students’ academic performance, identify any academic or other concerns, and work closely with students to address issues and/or refer students to appropriate resources. The academic coach will collaborate closely with faculty and Student Life staff in order to enhance co-curricular opportunities and first-year experience initiatives.This is a full-time, year-round, grant funded position with funding through fall 2018, and with potential for continuation.


Work closely with entering students from enrollment through their first year, providing proactive advising and on-going coaching towards academic success and student persistence

Monitor student academic progress through regular tracking and reporting

Assist students toward self-advocacy skills in interactions with faculty and staff; act as a liaison when appropriate

Respond to queries from students, parents/families, faculty, and staff as appropriate within the guidelines of FERPA

Consult and collaborate with Student Life and Academic Support Services enhancing first year co-curricular programming and supporting a robust first-year experience

Develop programs and activities for students and lead professional development for staff and faculty as appropriate to increase student persistence and academic success

Participate in orientation as well as a variety of workshops and experiences throughout the academic year

Serve on college committees as needed

Work evenings and weekends as necessary

Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Interest in engaging students in a sustainable liberal arts education

Bachelor’s degree required

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work cooperatively with departments across campus

Special adeptness at working with students from a wide range of backgrounds
